The Mines Golf Course
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Date Played: Sep. 2011
Clubhouse and Staff: Small clubhouse. No bar or restaurant area. There is a decent selection of golf apparel. Friendly staff, although an addition of a food/beverage cart would be nice.
Course Conditions: The fairways and greens are in good shape. Some of the greens are protected by deep bunkers that are also in good condition.
Playability: Rolling hills provide some nice elevation changes. A few of the greens are nearly impossible if you leave your ball in the wrong spot. Not a long course, but placement shots are required on most holes.
Scenery: The Mines winds through a large wooded area, and no two holes are alike. No water hazards on the course, but there are some scenic holes. A nice par 3 down a large hill, as well as a dogleg par 5 featuring an elevated green.
Value: The Mines recently dropped their standard rates to make them more competitive.
Overall Experience: A good course at a reasonable price. I would recommend giving The Mines a shot.
